I surprised my husband with this media room featuring 100″ screen. Inspired by the style of HGTV designer Candice Olson, I did the work myself on a much smaller DIY budget. Complete shopping list & prices on my blog.

    @DallasfuckingTT

Well I guess I can just tell you here. I use Medialink for my PS3 and I think it’s best to run a Cat5e or Cat6e cable to it. I’m using 5e as it seems to get the job done. Then I set up the custom settings for 5.1 surround and the source resolution.

@mkayreagan I do stream them at 1080i/p. Shoot me a msg on here w/ your email I’ll tell you the best way to do it. I kinda perfected it today.

Yes, 7.1 and glad I did it. Do you stream 1080i or p movies to PS3? I have MBP also but haven’t tried it. And AppleTV only does 960 x 540.

Also is this a 7.1 setup?

Cool lil transformation. The PS3 can be the center of your hometheater. get the BT adapter for your 890 and you’re set. I use mine for SACD, BD, and I stream movies to it from my Macbook Pro.

    It looks outdated.

I love the idea with the 2 cabinets and beverage cooler. I’ll have to try that!

Thanks for your compliment! The screen is a projector screen – the Stewart Firehawk 100,” fixed. The space determined our seating. The sofa allows me to have my workspace behind it, and the desk comes apart for storage when we need to add a row of barstools for “stadium seating” when we have more than 4 viewers. It’s a multi-purpose room, not meant to be a dedicated theater. And using the sofabed we already had helped with the budget. And it’s extremely comfortable!

Nice looking for sure….too bad you have so many windows in that room. Windows make the sound escape. Not sure if you have heavy velvet type drapes to cover them for theatre mode but it would be a good investment to help with that issue.

    $4,500
    she told me.

Awesome room, it looks great! Especially love the snack bar with the mini fridge and microwave.

What was the total cost for the whole renovation?

It’s beautiful. I want one, but my house is small and too shiny and no room for a theatre. Some people are just less fortunate than others I guess.

The Before wasn’t to bad either.

LOL! I put together this room myself but can’t figure out my PS3, other than for playing Blu Ray movies. Is there a PS3 for Dummies?

this is beautiful, too beautiful, i need something that would hold up to a bunch a guys during football season, baskettball season, as well as playstation nights!!!

  22. mkayreagan says:

The home theater equipment including all components (listed @ right), remote, cables & cabinet was $9,500. We already had the sofa, exercise bike & desk chair, so the rest (furniture, bar, lighting accessories, paint), was $4,500. Visitors guess about $35,000 for the whole room when it was less than half that. LOL.

  23. GreenArrow1616 says:

How Much did you pay all of this stuff, because i’m also going to make one just like yours but different.

Thanks for your comment! The projector is 1080p, IOW, true High Definition when used with BluRay. It’s 1080i with most content on DirecTV. This projector & screen combo works well with some ambient light (daytime viewing of sports with shutters closed and lights off) but the picture is much better when it’s totally dark, ie nighttime with lights all off. Even using eco-mode to save bulb usage, the picture is amazing!
