Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-L32S1 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Just bought this from Amazon…wanted to put it on an existing wall mount…missing screws needed to do so..were not in Panasonic box…do not know if oversight on their part, or intentional so you have to buy their brand? So, have not turned it on as of yet..

I bought this tv for my bedroom. It is very dark for starters. My old non panel tv use to light up my room and have great color. This one has very dim and dull color. The sound is truly what bothers me the most. With no sound in my room you have to turn it up to 40 to hear it and then it still isn’t clear when the people talk softly on tv. I truly expected this tv to be as good as the 50″ I bought but it is not. It is my first LED display tv so maybe it is normal. I do not recommend this tv.

I did a lot of research before selecting the TC-L32S1. The TV was rated high on Consumer Reports as well and it had all the features I was looking for. I had read quite a few reviews and in the negative reviews I read people had complained about the sound on the set. Most of those reviews were earlier in 2009 and many of the positive reviews were later in the year. So I figured Panasonic must have fixed the sound issue. I was wrong.
The TV was purchased for our bedroom. We had it about 4 days and after watching it for about 1/2 an hour the sound would get full of static then the volume would go low and eventually you couldn’t hear it at all. I tried muting the set and then taking mute off. No change. We had to turn the set off and back on in order for the sound to work again. But even then the sound would cut out after a few more minutes of operation. We tried it another couple days and the same thing happened after about 1/2 hour of watching. We had the set turned on for less than 5 hours in the 8 days we had it.
I sent it back to Amazon. That process was a breeze. Now I have started the process of looking for another TV all over again. I’m disappointed in this Panasonic model but it would not prevent me from trying another Panasonic TV.

I was looking for my first HDTV to place in my bedroom and this one seemed to fit the bill. There were a lot of complaints about weak sound, but I decided to take the plunge anyway. It was definitely the right decision.
I also don’t think that the sound issue is as bad as some reviewers have made it to be. I rarely raise the volume past 25/100. Of course, keep in mind that it’s a small bedroom and I’m usually 5-6 ft. away. As another reviewer suggested, check the “AI” audio sound settings. My TV actually came with the feature already turned off, so it might be that Panasonic has heard enough complaints about it. If you plan to put this in a big living room, then you MIGHT need some external speakers. But you should see how you like the sound first before buying any extra speakers.
The image quality on this set is pretty awesome. I have it hooked up to a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HDC cable box and a PS3 with HDMI cables. Blu-Ray on the PS3 looks really good. Colors seems accurate and I have yet to see any hiccups. I’ve also streamed over 1080p videos from my Mac to my PS3 and it also looked great. The only thing that might be an issue is a bit of image blurring during sporting events. It’s typically visible when players are moving, which causes things in the background (typically the crowd) to become blurry. Although most of your attention will be on the players, not the crowd, so it’s not a huge deal.
Bottom line is that this TV is a wonderful entry level HDTV for the price being asked (about $450). If you’re on the fence then get off of it and buy it.

I previously purchased the 37-inch predecessor to this model one year ago for my Livingroom, and have been extremely satisfied. I knew I wanted to stay with Panasonic to replace the set in one of my bedrooms. I purchased the TC-L32S1 on Black Friday for a great price, and free super-saver shipping. This new 32-inch 1080p model meets all my expectations. The set-up is a breeze, the picture quality excellent, and I have no complaints with the sound quality or volume. If your in the market for a competively priced 1080p Television, this is a serious contender!
