Home Theater Projectors are known to be pricey, but there are still some models that are more budget friendly and more accessible to people who don’t want to break the bank. Some projectors can be upwards of thousands of dollars, while there are quite a few home theater projectors in the six to seven hundred dollar range that are very good quality. When buying one, you’ll need to think about a few things.
Brightness is one feature to consider. The brightness of a projector is measured in ANSI lumens and usually ranges from about seven hundred to two thousand or more. Rooms that have controlled lighting and not as much sunlight require less brightness. If you have a room that can be totally dark as is desirable in home theater you will need to worry less about the brightness but if you home theater projector is in a sunny room, you might want to consider this feature carefully.
For best image quality, it’s recommended to match your source with the native resolution. DVI and HDMI cables are currently the norm in high quality, high definition cables. Most projectors have a life between 2,000 and 4,000 hours, and a replacement will cost a few hundred dollars. Proper cleaning of the filter will help to prolong lamp life.
Projectors can be installed on the ceiling or table top. Mounted on the ceiling, the projector will be more hidden but will need to be perfectly aligned with the screen and won’t be moved much. Table top setup means the projector can be moved around, but it will also need to be set up each time. Most home theater enthusiasts prefer the ceiling mount as it is a one time setup and eliminates that problem of the projector being moved inadvertently and screwing up your placement.
For a huge image, the best kind of projector to have is a front image projector. The internet has lots of buying guides with specs and reviews to help you make a decision when buying. There are two types of projectors being marketed right now that are most common – LCD (liquid crystal display) and DLP (digital light processing). Both work well and both have their pros and cons, so read up some before making a decision.
When it comes to buying a home theater projector, you want to be sure to educate yourself as this is a big investment for your theater. Knowing all the features and which ones are right for your particular room will insure that you get the home theater projector that is perfect for you!
