Building your own home theater is a task that will provide many years of enjoyment. Installing the right tv, stereo system, and speakers in your home is easy and with the right materials and instruction can be done exactly as you envision it. That being said, if you want that perfect home theater, then you would be smart to plan it out properly ahead of time.

First you’ll need to decide whether you want to use a room that’s unfurnished or to convert an existing one. Think about what types of electronics you’re going to want, and what size television you will be getting so you can begin a diagram of the layout of the room. Don’t forget to think about the type of seating you want too. You want to make sure you have enough space for everything you want to include in the room and that the seating can be placed at an appropriate distance from the television.

You’ll also need to think about wiring. Wiring the equipment together can be a chore but if you spend time going through the instruction manuals as well as take your time wiring things together it should be fine. Depending on how big your home theater is going to be it may pay to call a professional in to install the majority of it.

When it comes to the sound in your home theater, you will surely want the best sound experience and that means using surround sound speakers. This means that you will have 3 speakers in front where the television is and 2 speakers in back, behind where the people will be sitting. It’s important to account for this in your initial design as you will need to allocate the space for the rear speakers and think about how you will run the wiring, unless you are using wireless speakers, of course!

Lighting and seating are also important things to think about in home theater designs. There should be plenty of comfortable seating and lights that can dim in order to allow the best viewing experience. Whether you have a large screen tv or a projection screen, you want the atmosphere to be cozy and mellow and without distractions.

The internet should have plenty of resources if you’re planning a do it yourself design, so with some handiwork and the proper material you can start building your own home theater. Also, if you’re planning on having one built, you may want to sketch out a blueprint first for the layout of the room and what type of equipment you plan on having.

Whichever kind of home theater you build, doing the proper planning beforehand will insure that it is a great place for family gatherings and a wonderful place to relax and unwind.
